John Murphy's Carolina Special debut CD titled "Carolina Sunset" features 15 cuts including both new material and classic gems played "Carolina style". Recorded at Fantasy Studios in Berkley, “Carolina Sunset” features California Bluegrass Association veteran John Murphy on Guitar/Vocal, Paul Shelasky on Fiddle, George Goodell on Banjo, Dave Earl on Mandolin and John Duncan and Sue Walters on upright bass.
“Carolina Sunset” is authentic hard-core traditional bluegrass music in the style of Flatt & Scruggs, Jim Eanes, and the great classic bluegrass bands. Lead by guitarist and lead singer John Murphy, in this album Carolina Special creates laid-back and heartfelt multiple-part harmony singing, interspersed with tasty instrumental licks, all backed by a driving rhythm section, in fast-paced, engaging tracks.
"this band is almost religious in its devotion to the purest forms of pickin' and singin' … the group was just superb."
